Some whiskeys are made to mark an occasion. Others are made to tell a story.
Papa’s Legacy American Whiskey was created in tribute to L.D. Maness, lovingly known to his family as Papa—a man whose life was defined by hard work, quiet strength, service, and devotion to family.
Born on February 7, 1920, Papa came from a generation that understood the value of an honest day's work. During World War II, he proudly served in the Army Air Corps. His connection to the land was also part of his wartime story: during those years, he grew tomatoes for General Douglas MacArthur's wife.
After his service, Papa continued to build a life with his hands. He worked the land, grew cotton, and spent years working with tractors, eventually retiring as a tractor foreman. Farming and gardening were never simply work to him—they were part of who he was. Even later in life, he especially enjoyed growing okra and sharing what he harvested with family and friends.
Papa was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was a longtime member of the IV Hunting Dog Club. But some of the most important moments of his life weren't found in the fields or woods. They were found with his family. He could be seen supporting his daughters at softball games and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
And after a long day's work, Papa enjoyed a good glass of whiskey and watching a John Wayne movie.
That simple tradition became part of the inspiration behind this bottle.
Papa’s Legacy American Whiskey is our way of raising a glass to the man he was and the values he left behind. It represents the early mornings, the long days, the soil on a working man's hands, the strength to serve his country, and the satisfaction of sitting down at the end of the day knowing the work was done.
It is a tribute to a man who didn't need recognition to leave his mark.
His legacy can be found in the land he worked, the family he loved, and the generations who came after him.
L.D. Maness passed away on May 30, 2012, at the age of 92, but the lessons and values he passed down continue.
Today, that legacy lives on through his family—and now, through a whiskey bearing a name that means more to us than any brand ever could.
